Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has rated the win at Cheltenham on Saturday as one of the best for his side.

The 3-0 win at the weekend keeps The Gills in touch with the play-offs, just a point behind Oxford United and Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent how he believed the victory was one to treasure:

“It’s right up there, to come to Cheltenham, with the season they’re having, to score three and keep a clean sheet says it all.”

“The dressing room’s so together and we really want to achieve something.”

“They were exceptional, everyone was terrific, we limited them to maybe one shot on target.”

“We could have had more, to come and do that at a place like Cheltenham is a terrific achievement.”

Jordan Obita’s brace, his first league goals, helped Gillingham on their way with Chris Whelpdale rounding things off just seven minutes before the end.

With an injury crisis that would dent most sides’ chances, Gillingham have shown the resolve over the past month to keep pace with the top seven and a victory against Crawley Town on Tuesday night could see them back in the top seven.

Hessenthaler is clearly not the biggest fan of Crawley manager Steve Evans and the two will come face to face with one another, just three months after Evans reported Hessenthaler to the police for using a racist insult, only for the allegation to be dropped.

In what is expected to be a lively affair at Priestfield on Tuesday night, a win against the Sussex oufit could go a long way to defining Gillingam’s season.
